The Chico's Charities Edison Festival of Light Celebrates

The award-winning event runs Jan. 31 – Feb. 22, 2009.

The Chico's Charities Edison Festival of Light in Fort Myers has been recognized as one of the Top 20 events in the Southeast. A recent Florida Weekly article reported on the honor, given by the Southeast Tourism Society.

The festival, now heading into its 71st year, is already one of the largest annual celebrations in Florida. With science fairs, parades, sporting events, craft shows and fireworks, it pays tribute to the innovation and impact of famous inventor Thomas Edison.

The 2009 Chico's Charities Edison Festival of Light runs Jan. 31 – Feb. 22. Saturday, February 14 is Edison's Light Up the Town Celebration, featuring musical entertainment from regional and national acts along the Caloosahatchee River in Centennial Park. On February 15, the festival hosts the Junior Run, Junior Parade and awards ceremonies.

On the final festival weekend, more than 1,000 runners from around North America will take to the streets of downtown Fort Myers for the annual 5K Race. Then, an estimated crowd of more than 250,000 guests will line up to witness the Grand Parade, one of the Southeast's largest evening parades. The two-hour parade is a spectacle of color and pageantry featuring some of Florida's top marching bands, floats, dance troupes and drill teams.
